Dai-Khoa Nathaniel Tran

letter to grandparents

About the author

Nathan (he/him) is the son of two Vietnamese refugees who likes to make bad jokes and write uplifting speeches. As you could guess, this is a bit of a departure from the norm.

Description

I wrote the first draft of this poem for a workshop at the Vietnamese Student Association's fall retreat. I almost never submit artistic pieces, especially for public exhibition, but that initial exercise let out many fears -- fears that I had left in the back of my mind for too long. I hope that reading this piece is cathartic, because writing it sure was. More importantly, if you're also struggling to figure out where to start... I hope that you will find your way too. Who knows: maybe we can find it together.
